Know the Facts
A study by the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Professor TK Logan at the University of Kentucky surveying women who contacted The Hotline, found that they all shared a strong reluctance to turn to law enforcement for help, regardless of whether or not they had already interacted with police.
1 in 4 women reported that they wouldn’t call the police in the future; more than half said that calling the police would make things worse.
Two thirds or more said they were afraid the police wouldn’t believe them or do anything to intervene.
Studies have found that law enforcement families experience domestic violence at rates as high as 40%; sexual abuse among law enforcement ranks second in all forms of police misconduct.
